313K Ford sedans with headlight issues recalled

A total of 313,000 later models of Ford sedans are being recalled by their manufacturer due to a possible headlight problem that has been linked to several accidents, a December 23 article in USA Today stated.

According to reports, the recall affects the 2003-2005 models of Mercury Grand Marquis and Crown Victoria vehicles with headlights that may become faulty while in use. The headlights in the affected vehicles may unintentionally turn off if the solder joints inside the light control unit are damaged. The automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are both aware of 11 collisions that have been linked to the problem. Many of the recalled sedans are still being used as patrol vehicles, taxicabs, and service vehicles.
