US vehicle recalls expected to surge this year

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Chief Mark Rosekind recently said that he is expecting an increase in recalls of faulty vehicles this year, Reuters stated on January 6.

Vehicle owners, according to Rosekind, have become more vigilant to auto manufacturing and design defects as a result of the sudden increase of recalls last year. Just last year, the NHTSA reportedly received an estimated 75,000 complaints from consumers. The NHTSA was also castigated for its slow response in preventing dangers in the two biggest vehicle recalls last year. Rosekind is planning to impose higher civil penalties to auto manufacturers that fail to address recalls in a sufficient manner.
