#X goes viral to prevent distracted driving

AT&T is launching #X to raise awareness about the dangers of texting while behind the wheel, CBS News reported on September 23.

The #X symbol is part of AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign to prevent drivers on the road from being distracted by their cell phones. #X is supposed to be sent to friends and family to communicate that need to pause their conversation because they are about to drive. Celebrities like Demi Lovato and Tim McGraw were recruited to help spread the campaign on social media sites. Over 1,500 organizations are also supporting the campaign, and over 5 million people have already pledged to refrain from sending text messages while behind the wheel.

Sadly thousands of car crashes in America every year are linked to distracted driving; an increasing number of these crashes are due to cell phone use.
