803,000 vehicles with airbag issue recalled by Toyota

Automaker giant Toyota is voluntarily recalling 803,000 vehicles in the United States due to an A/C condenser leaking problem that can cause airbag malfunctions, company officials stated on Thursday, October 17.

The recall affects the 2012-2013 Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon hybrid, and Venza mid-sized SUV vehicles, all of which may have a leaking A/C condenser that can affect the airbag system of the vehicles. Toyota said that the leaking condenser of the air conditioning system may either accidentally deploy the airbag or disable it due to short circuit. At least three incidents and two injuries involving the recalled vehicles have been reported, a spokeswoman of the automaker said.

Dealers will fix the problem by sealing the leaking condenser and putting a cover in place to protect the airbag control system.
