Study reveals that fatal car accidents increase on Tax Day

A study conducted with gathered data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveals that on Tax Day an increased number of fatal car accidents take place.

Thirty years of data were used to come to this conclusion. Over the 30 years, there were 6,783 deaths associated with fatal car accidents that occurred on Tax Day. This amount roughly translates to 226 Tax Day traffic deaths, as compared to 213 deaths on any other given day of the week.

The death rate on Tax Day was 6 percent higher than on days that fell the week before the deadline, and the week after. Experts say that the stress associated with this tax deadline, and the possibility of distracted driving to meet this set deadline could attribute to the increase in fatalities.
