AAA study shows new teen drivers should have supervision

According to a study conducted by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, teen drivers who are new behind the wheel should have continued guidance from parents.

The first month teen drivers are on the road sans learner’s permit is the most dangerous month. Teens are twice as likely to crash in this month on the road than they are in a full year of driving. Reckless driving is found to be the main cause of these crashes. The research cites failure to slow down, not paying attention and failure to stop as the main reasons for the reckless driving.

It is important for parents to stay involved with their teenagers once they initially obtain their driver’s licenses. Teenagers who drive with other teenagers in the car are far more likely to be in a car accident than teenagers who drive alone.
