Former WI Senator Injured in Motorcycle Accident

Former State Senator and Sheboygan-resident Dave Zien was injured in a motorcycle accident in Florida Monday.

According to officials with the Daytona Beach Police Department, the 59 year-old motorcyclist was in Florida for the Daytona Beach Bike Week when he was injured early Monday morning on Interstate 10. Police say an SUV traveling in front of Zien tried to change lanes, lost control, and rolled on its side. Zien could not avoid the vehicle and his motorcycle struck the SUV.

According to authorities, Zien was transported by ambulance to the Tallahassee Memorial Medical Center after the accident. He was checked into the intensive care unit of the hospital. Hospital officials say the former senator is expected to make a full recovery.

Zien was a champion of motorcycle rights during his 13 years in the Senate. He rode over one million miles on a 1991 Harley-Davidson Sport Glide bike and is a member of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
