Sheboygan Native Recovering After R.I. Car Accident

A Sheboygan man, critically injured in a car accident in Rhode Island, is showing signs of recovery.

According to police reports, 24 year-old Eric Mueller was driving an SUV January 2 when he lost control of the vehicle on black ice and struck a tree. Mueller fractured his skull and a vertebra in the accident, according to 43 year-old Chadd Mueller.

The accident occurred near Smithville, R.I., where Mueller moved 10 months ago. Rescuers told the Mueller family the size of the SUV and its side airbags likely saved Eric’s life.

Mueller spent several days in a medically induced coma after the crash. He has been slowly regaining mental and physical function over the last two weeks. “Every time he wakes up we try to explain to him where he is, why he’s there, and that he’s going to be there for a while,” Mueller’s father said. “I think’s it’s on a day-to-day basis, where some days he remembers, some days he doesn’t, but you can see he’s making improvements on a daily basis.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mueller family during this difficult time.
